confused on a Dell upgrade

My friend Bamm is a converted Dell user. That is, he used to be a huge fan of ASUS. Anyhow, he’s planning to upgrade his laptop by buying Dell Memory and a high-capacity hard disk this weekend and me being computer literate, he’s asking me to accompany him.

I’m not that familiar with Dell products though so I did some research. I’m still quite confused about how to best upgrade his laptop. Is there anyone who can help me with it? Your comment will be highly appreciated.
