The joke is on them

Written on Monday, 26 of December, 2011 at 11:33 pm

Sometimes the only way to teach some guys a lesson is to give them a taste of their own medicine. These past few weeks, practical jokes have been “in” in the office. Ever since my supervisor started it, everyone had their own pranks. I have never been fond of pranks, or any jokes that make other people look stupid.

Yesterday I just had enough of it. When they placed some gooey stuff in my keyboard, I became so angry I promised myself I would definitely retaliate. But of course, revenge is sweeter when no one figures out you did it.

So I devised a diabolic plan of looking into their weaknesses. Voila! They were married individuals with some seriously insecure wives. So I went on with my plan. First I created their full profiles in some adult online dating sites. I placed there their full pictures and all, along with some office secret pictures like the one we had in Hooters.

Then, I also created some bogus accounts of women and created some scripted conversation with their fake accounts. To look like they were dating. After that, I emailed their spouses a screenshot and a link to the site. Oh it was diabolical. Earlier, one of the guys went to work looking very stressed out. I heard he had a fight with her wife. Oh I hope I could get the credits for that unfortunately I must resist the temptation to continue with my next plans. Of course, the plan is to send out an anonymous email saying that all of it was part of a prank. But that is for next week.

Free music from youtube!

Written on Wednesday, 23 of November, 2011 at 7:56 am

Here is a quick and easy way to get some free music: Download it from Youtube!
I love music and I love filling up my Itouch with a lot of it. However, most of the times, I do not want to buy music because if I do that I would not have anything left in my budget. Imagine buying 32 gig of songs, see how long you’ll last.
Anyhow, a friend suggested YouTube to MP3 downloader, a program that allows you to download just the MP3 in the video.

I used to do this by downloading the whole video then converting it down to audio only. Fortunately, this solution is much simpler.

Some of you guys may not agree with me, telling me that MP3′s sold in itunes still have better quality. Yes that is true. However, if you are not an audiophile you would not recognize the difference of a 192 kbps to a 128 kbps bit rate of an MP3. But you will have to agree that youtube already has quality audio. Good enough for the masses.

Be prepared, not scared!

Written on Monday, 19 of September, 2011 at 4:20 am

There’s nothing better than being prepared. As the old and very famous saying goes, prevention is better than cure. And in the case of tornadoes and the like, I’m afraid I’m going to have to agree with the person who came up with those words of wisdom.

We don’t know what the future holds. One day, Japan gets a high magnitude earthquake, the next day, Singapore gets a tsunami. A lot of people ended up losing a lot of their assets and burying themselves in debts because they weren’t responsible enough to prepare for situations like that.

You know way back in the world war times when bomb shelters were common? I strongly recommend people to get tornado shelters so they know that they always have a backup plan.

Are there any tips that you would recommend a person preparing for these common disasters? I’d recommend keeping the fragile items inside the shelter to a minimum. As much as possible take away glass and ceramic items. They’re more trouble than they’re worth in times of disaster.

Getting rid of molds

Written on Thursday, 1 of September, 2011 at 7:52 am

Yesterday I had to buy a catch all floor mat because the one in my room had so much molds in it. Molds have been a problem of mine since the rainy season came. So I did a little research on how to get rid of molds in the house. Here are some tips I got from the net:

  • Avoid mopping the floor with a wet mop. The damp floor just becomes a breeding ground for molds. Also when the water evaporates, it adds up to the humidity in the room.
  • Always dry the kitchen counter tops. For the same reason mentioned above, wet means molds.
  • Spray on bleach on always damp corners of the house. Molds are also plants. They die on bleach.
  • Take out any mold infested items. Molds propagate by pores so to prevent molds you have to get rid of the source.

So there, I am sure most of you already do this but hey, it is always good to be reminded.

Trying out hydroponics

Written on Saturday, 27 of August, 2011 at 10:51 am

I have been very fond of gardening since I can remember. In my backyard, I have vegetables, trees, flowering plants and fruit bearing ones. I just love it when my neighbors envy my lemons and oranges, just kidding.

Anyhow, I attended a church gathering yesterday and one of the members, Candice, was offering organic vegetables at the end of the worship session. I was not interested at first because I basically have all the vegetables I eat right at my own backyard. However, Candice also brought some pictures of her organic farm. To my surprise, I saw that She was growing vegetables INSIDE the house. She had a garden room inside the house and she is using Hydroponics to grow vegetables.

Hydroponics is a technique for growing plants without the use of soil. Plants grow in styro pots with their roots under water. The water is actually a nutrient solution of organic substances which is circulated by commercial pumps. Of course this is a capital intensive type of gardening but it is also highly productive.

Because I was more interested with her garden than with her products she invited me over! I am on my way now to her house to try out hydroponics. I am so excited

Best Friend

Written on Sunday, 1 of May, 2011 at 5:30 am

Earlier today my friend and I were arguing about a commercial we saw on tv. We ended up drifting off to various topics such as the best thrush treatment and what old people should do because they have too much free time.

Since I started working I haven’t been able to hang out with her much, and I can say I sure miss having these random discussions with her and just hanging out, not having to worry about things I need to accomplish by the end of the week.

No matter what anyone says, I believe my college years are the best years of my life. Back then my only worries would be if I get to pass my subjects and meet all the requirements that my professor demands. Now I have to worry about getting along well with my co-workers and not skipping a day of work because my salary gets deducted and I may lose my job.

I guess that’s still part of life, we all have to grow up at one point and accept that it’s the way things are.

Investing on insurance

Written on Monday, 25 of April, 2011 at 3:11 am

So here is yet another costly insurance that needs to be reviewed. On the hot seat is… drum roll… the disability insurance. Life Insurance are investments that only your loved ones can claim. However this disability insurance sort of makes sense. Imagine if you have a life insurance then you had an accident. An accident that made you lose your limbs. This disability insurance seems perfect right? Well not entirely.

Just like when you are buying your first family car, you always spend time on research to be able to get the perfect one. The same goes with insurance. You will probably be paying for that your whole life so better be ready to read a lot of documents for this. Personally, I am quite skeptical on the terms of disability insurance. …to be continued

On Mother’s Day

Written on Saturday, 23 of April, 2011 at 3:18 am

These days, children are not that sweet with their parents. Well at least not as before.
During my time, I feel proud whenever Mom brings me to school. She cooks breakfast for me and packs my snack. She rides with the school bus and kisses be before we part. Today however, children tend to think that it is “uncool” to bring parents to school.

Perhaps it is because of the memes that TV programs are giving to the children. These days, TV programs portray children with no appreciation for their parents. This somehow programs the children’s subconscious mind.

I know all of us want to thank their parents. However most of us have a very hard time showing it. So I have the best solution – birthday flower delivery service!

There is no better gift than being surprised with fresh flowers. Of course, do not forget to write a simple letter telling your mom how much you love her.

Baby Steps

Written on Sunday, 10 of April, 2011 at 6:47 am

Before I graduated, there was a time when my academic performance stopped decreasing exponentially. I wasn’t proud of this time, it was the peak of my procrastinating days, and I chose to watch television series over reviewing for my final exams. However, I was proud of the fact that I passed all of my subjects during that time even though I was really not paying attention and being all grade conscious like my usual self.

During this time, my professor inspired me. I saw how his life was all organized and how accomplished he is. He’s amazing at both his favorite sport, ping pong, and lecturing us. I asked him what his secret for developing his ping pong skill was because I have always been frustrated at that sport and he told me that he bought the newgy ping pong robot and it did wonders from him.

I don’t really intend to be an amazing lecturer like him because I’m pretty sure the salary wouldn’t be enough for me, so I started working on my ping pong skills and took care of the rest after that got me going.

Baby steps. It’s like they always say.

On easily getting bored about work 1

Written on Friday, 25 of February, 2011 at 5:11 am

Earlier I had my mentoring session with my mentor (uh). We do it regularly in our company. This kind of activity lets the seniors give advice to the younger programmers. It is more like a father and son talk, just without the tears. At first I thought that this activity will put me to sleep better than the best sleeping pills. But I was wrong. Our conversation revolved around this famous topic: “How to keep you motivated at work”.

So then, I asked my mentor how he remained in this company while keeping his good employee rating always better than the previous year. He was never really ready to answer such a question. Usually meetings like this are just casual talks about the work itself, and not about life at work.
