HR deparment, not always enough

Writing by wisteria on Thursday, 25 of October, 2007 at 9:34 pm

Human resource is a company’s greatest asset. However, one of the biggest problems in a company is miscommunication between its employees and employers, and even among employees. At times, having an HR department is not enough. This is where having an intranet software becomes handy.

Companies like Epazz provide unique BoxesOS applications that create virtual communities for enhanced communication within a particular company. What I really like best about it is that their applications offer a secure online workspace for users to hold online discussions with other users be they in the next cubicle or in another country.

Should you be interested, Epazz offers a 30-day free trial of their software. All you have to do is contact them to have it setup. Hope this helps improve the work flow of communication in your company!

on having a portable personal travel assistant

Writing by wisteria on Wednesday, 10 of October, 2007 at 10:07 pm

My brother Raymond, is very fond of his Fortuner and loves buying gizmos and gadgets for it. His latest gadget is one of Nuvi’s GPS receivers - the Nuvi 360 Personal Travel Assistant.

I went out of town with him once and though I find it cool that he has a GPS navigator, I got tired of the turn-by-turn voice directions uttering street names after two hours of travel. Still, the fact that it helped us steer clear of traffic and arrive on our destination 30 minutes ahead of schedule makes it a good buy. In fact, I plan to buy a portable Garmin Nuvi 360 as well when my dad hands me down the Lancer.

new flat panel HDTV in the house

Writing by wisteria on Wednesday, 10 of October, 2007 at 1:20 am

Last month, at our house/office in the province, Jef, Marvin, Joedel and I discussed buying a TV. Since we’re still paying off the bills from last month’s move in, we decided to purchase a flat screen TV this October.

Jef, one of my colleagues and housemate informed me a while ago that they bought a Flat Panel HDTV today. He said they purchased it with a credit card on twelve-months to pay basis to make it easier on the pocket. I was a bit doubtful with their taste on television, so I was extremely relieved to find out that they bought the Sony BRAVIA KDL-40XBR2 40 in. HDTV LCD Television. It’s quite pricey, but based from its features like the Live Color Creation backlight system and TruSurround XT™ audio technology, it is absolutely worth it.

(almost) loyal Nokia 6630 owner

Writing by wisteria on Tuesday, 9 of October, 2007 at 6:39 pm

Last 2005, I bought a Nokia 6630 – the latest phone at that time. Two years later, although there are already a lot of cellular phones which are way better and has more cool features that came out, I can say that Nokia 6630 was a good investment on my part.

Why? It has most of the essential features of the latest models, and with its expandable memory, I can pretty much install on my 6630 most of the software you can find in the latest cellular phones. Then again, if someone offered me a Samsung SGH-D900 (comes with a powerful 3.13 megapixel camera and TV-output function), an Apple iPhone (8 GB), a Nokia 7370 (I really love the Warm Amber, this phone totally wins the beauty pageant) or a RIM BlackBerry 8700c Cellular Phone, I’d happily accept it and donate my current cell phone. Who wouldn’t? 0:p

MacBook Pro - creative types’ dream machine

Writing by wisteria on Tuesday, 9 of October, 2007 at 9:44 am

My close friend and officemate, Elvis, is a flash website creator and an animator. He recently got a raise and is now planning to save up for his dream laptop – a Mac Book Pro (MA610LL) Notebook.

I doubtfully asked, “Why choose a Mac Book?! Apple Laptops are pretty expensive compared to the usual ones.” He laughed and informed me that he prefers a Mac Notebook because of its graphics boost.

I did further research and according to one website, “More onscreen space can be added to a MacBook, which is ideal for graphic designers and digital imaging professionals editing their artwork in Adobe Photoshop.” I guess this, plus the fact that it is the only mainstream notebook besides the Lenovo ThinkPad T61p to surpass 10,000 on the 3DMark03 tests, does make the Mac Book a dream machine for creative types like my friend Elvis.

put your websites on different hostings

Writing by wisteria on Sunday, 9 of September, 2007 at 4:19 am

Recently, I have been buying up domains at whim. For the past three months, I bought around 11 domains already. With all these domains comes the problem of hosting. Currently, all of them are either parked or hosted on one server.

Based from my readings online, it is best to have your websites on different Virtual Servers – both for SEO purposes and extreme cases like crashing of servers. It would really be a catastrophe if your hosting crashes and your entire money-making websites are in that single hosting. Thus, it’s never a good idea to “place all your eggs in one basket”.

With this, I am investigating some Dedicated Virtual Server Plans that would be ideal for my requirements. There’s this hosting with a full access to a virtual server for $29.95/month for entry level plans. I might avail of it next month if I don’t encounter something better and cheaper. Can someone recommend a better plan?

showcase your snaps in digital frames

Writing by wisteria on Wednesday, 22 of August, 2007 at 9:09 pm

My being a picture addict heightened with the onset of digital cameras. Without the worry of having to buy expensive films, and the fact that you can erase, delete, edit, and store a lot of pictures with a digital camera, clicking away photos has been much more pleasurable.

Then again, with our ability to store pictures in our computers and share them online, we tend to forego the “printing” part of taking pictures. The problem with not printing digital pictures is that when your computer crashes and you did not have any backup of them, your precious captured moments also crashes with it.

Anyhow, another way of ensuring you have a backup copy of your carefully selected pictures is putting them on digital frames. Yep, you can showcase your digital pictures in a digital photo frame. All you have to do is take photos, switch your memory card to the digital picture frame, then view! Aside from the stylish frames which you can display in any areas at your home or office, you can also set the period of time you want your pictures to display and how you prefer the transitions between pictures. You can read more at www.digitalframez.com.

managing made easier

Writing by wisteria on Friday, 17 of August, 2007 at 1:49 am

Today, a skilled manager makes more than the owner. And owners fight each other to get the skilled managers.

- Mikhail Khodorkovsky

True enough, managing takes more skills than owning a company. This is because people are a company’s greatest asset. And it is the manager’s job to handle people.

Nevertheless, being a manager need not be that tough especially for those in lead aggregation companies. I recently found out that there’s a CRM (customer relationship management) software that provides lead aggregation companies the ability to manage and run their entire business. Imagine that – a piece of software that can run your business!

In case you don’t know, CRM is a necessary aspect of every organization’s PR and marketing structure. Moreover, according to Mark Jackson, “Multiple studies have proven that customer retention and cross-selling can cost far less than focusing solely on new customers to replace the fluctuations of a returning customer base.”

This new lead management CRM Software is developed by AIMpromote. Some of the things you can do with this software are, sell any type of lead, in any vertical; manage accounting; sell leads automatically; and run ROI reports on all leads, campaigns, and/or website activity.

People are definitely a company’s greatest asset. Providing them with the right tools such as the CRM software will surely help you get the most out of them.

the use of spies

Writing by wisteria on Saturday, 11 of August, 2007 at 8:54 am

Spies are a most important element in war, because upon them depends an army’s ability to move.

– Sun Tzu, The Art of War

It’s fascinating to know that spying has been practiced for as long as two and a half thousand years ago – the time when Sun Tzu wrote the thirteen chapters of The Art of War. What makes it even more interesting is that it IS being recommended.

But come to think of it, although we normally associate the word “spy” to military stratagems, in reality, it is being used in our everyday lives – both consciously and unconsciously. In fact, it is rampant in the business world, especially in marketing and anything online related. Currently, you can even buy a spy software online, with features that will allow you to record all (from email, chat messages, web sites visited and program launched to visual snapshot recording).

Nevertheless, spying stratagems, gadgets and software can be useful or destructive – it all depends on the implementer. With all the advancements in the use of spies (or in spying), let us not forget the importance of privacy, and that everyone has a right to privacy and personal space. Before enforcing any spying method, put yourself on the receiver’s shoes – would you like to be spied upon?
