Elegant flooring without the mess

Written on Friday, 2 of October, 2009 at 1:27 am

Tiles are becoming more and more common nowadays unlike before when interior designers see them as cheap crap. Tiles were not advised before because they are so brittle and easily scratched. Also tile grouts accumulate dirt especially algae and grime. This is why before, home builders prefer using marble or wood parquet. But because of the recent developments in ceramics tiles are now made harder and more scratch resistant. Plus they now come very cheap in addition to very earth-friendly unlike using wood.

One thing I like most in tiles is that it can be easily replaced unlike marble. I recently replaced my living room’s wooden floor with tile flooring. No sanding and grinding so not much mess was made in the house. The termites already started munching on my wood parquet so I decided to replace it right away. Anyhow, my living room looks great now, very elegant yet simple. I definitely prefer tiles over marble or wood.

summer make-over

Written on Tuesday, 31 of March, 2009 at 12:54 am

Tired of the usual look of your house? Does it look more like a warehouse than a cozy home? Well, I think it’s time for you to do a home make-over! Actually, this was in line with the new 40-inch LCD TV that my dad bought. Because it’s so elegant to look at, we thought the house needed to catch up. This is where my mom kicks in. She proposed a house make-over starting with each room.

My bedroom is first in the list; it didn’t need much arranging. All it needed was a little adjustment in the door hinge. My sister’s room in the other hand needs an overhaul. The rugs should be cleaned or probably replaced. The walls also need repainting because it looks kinda dull. All materials needed were already listed and ready to be purchased. If all turns out well, we’ll invite some friends over for a party. I just hope we finish the whole make-over before the summer ends. Hehe.

Digitally Happy

Written on Monday, 30 of March, 2009 at 11:29 pm

The shift to digital TV forced dad to just buy a new LCD TV instead of the hundred dollar TV box. Well, he blames the government for forcing him to buy an LCD but actually he was the one excited to get one. Dad got a Blu-ray player and even upgraded the sofa to home theater furniture. Hehe.

I’m not the tech-y type, but I was quite impressed with the quality of digital TV. The picture was so clear and the sound was not distorted. Since we live near the airport, the old channels get easily distorted. I’m so glad that the digital channels are not affected by passing planes. Now I can watch my favourite movies and cartoons without having to miss any scenes. I’ve never been this happy with a TV before!

my movie room

Written on Thursday, 4 of December, 2008 at 10:52 am

Aside from sleeping and drinking, I love watching movies. But sometimes when I’m already stressed out with work, I don’t like to line up for the movie tickets anymore. I’d rather stay home and watch TV. So this gave me the idea of building my own movie room! You can make one too.

It’s pretty easy. For starters, you’ll need a spare room with air-conditioning to get that movie house feel; a home theater system, or just a DVD player with a TV and subwoofer; and most importantly, a good set of home theater furniture. The furniture is essential to make your room look like a real movie house. You may also add some thick curtains on all the walls to reduce the sound reflections inside the room (and to keep the room dark).

Now after your tiring day at work, you can just grab some fries and a burger on your way home and watch a movie in your very own movie room! You can even invite some friends over so they can provide the free food and drinks.

no more parking space in the garage – NOT

Written on Saturday, 22 of November, 2008 at 10:23 am

My brother was making a huge fuss over his car’s parking space since my dad bought a Mazda 3 last week and declared that the prime parking space with cover at our house will now be only for the Mazda. To solve that problem, I showed my brother a magazine about carports.

After browsing over the magazine and even visiting an online carports store for more selection, he’s back to his old everything’s-fine-and-dandy self. In fact, he’s so enthused with what he saw that he’s planning to use his next paycheck to purchase one. Well, what do you know…

no more laundry packing worries

Written on Friday, 21 of November, 2008 at 10:53 pm

One of my sister’s problems when she stays at her college dorm for a week is packing up her laundry. “Where do I put them?!” is her constant dilemma. She usually brings an extra bag for her dirty clothes, but it just doesn’t feel right…

Then, on my way to a holiday trip, I saw my friend Jehan dragging effortlessly a nice-looking, portable caddy-bag, which turns out to be a laundry hamper on 4-inch wheels! How cool can you get? To cap it off, I later found out that it is water resistant and has a large storage capacity.

Christmas checklist for Ruth checked! One portable laundry hamper, coming up. ^_^

Clean Your Sinks!

Written on Saturday, 26 of July, 2008 at 10:09 pm

I’ve noticed that our sinks at home are pretty much ignored, so they’re building up dirt on the sides. I cleaned them and now they’re spic and span!

If you don’t keep your sink clean, then various diseases related to water would most likely be experienced by you and your family members. We wouldn’t want that, ‘cause that would add more expenses to you, thus reducing your budget for other necessities, so don’t forget to clean your most loved sink!

Your Home

Written on Friday, 16 of May, 2008 at 8:56 am

You should know by now that your home is one of the things that reflect your personality. This is also your sanctuary, the place where you run to, to escape your problems. A beautiful garden is just the place for relaxing and unwinding.

Your furniture is what defines your home, so you should be careful in choosing them. You should also buy quality ones with beautiful designs. So you could get the most out of your hard-earned money.

All in all, my point is, just be careful in spending your money on stuff for your home so you won’t regret it in the near future.

the tub that calms the mind

Written on Saturday, 26 of April, 2008 at 6:36 pm

Change is constant. However, not everyone is happy if we talk about changes in music, foods, clothes and other things. At home, the innovation on bath tubs such as the walk in tubs is most welcome for use of my 63 year-old Dad. Four years ago, Dad had heart bypass operation and lately he is complaining on his swollen legs due to the artery that was taken out and was used in the heart bypass. At his age too, Dad has maintenance medicine for hypertension. He is also suffering from athritis.

The walk in tub Whirlpool Massage is a big help for Dad since it calms the mind, increases circulation, eases muscle strain, reduces athritis pain and promotes kidney function. We know Dad is safe while having his bath and enjoying the benefits offered by this latest development in bath tubs. The walk in tub calms the mind not only of Dad but the whole family as well.

a set of seats

Written on Friday, 18 of April, 2008 at 10:21 am

My mother is now a retired military officer with the rank of Colonel. During her active years in the service she had the opportunity to study at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. She took the Civil Affairs Staff Officer Course and the Instructor Training Course. During the week ends, the school had organized varied activities for the allied students such as visiting the tourist spots in North Carolina. Of the several places, Mom couldn’t forget Charlotte, for it was in this place that she met her best friend Josephine who is married to a businessman. Recently, Mom received an invitation from her best friend to attend their 25th Wedding Anniversary to be held in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Since we need a set of seats for our living room, I told Mom that if she is already at Charlotte, she ought to visit the famous Boyles Distinctive Furniture. Boyles have several furniture stores, and one of them is in Charlotte. The price of the furniture here according to my research is discounted. The staff is professional and they are capable of nationwide delivery. I do hope Mom could arrange for its delivery in time for my birthday.
