need to lose weight before March 2008 ends

Writing by wisteria on Thursday, 13 of March, 2008 at 9:30 pm

It’s almost March 31. This means I either need to double my effort in preparing to lose weight, or saving up to lose my bet with my officemate Grace.

Frankly, based from my depression hormones these past few days which has been sending me into a languid state, there’s a 50% chance that my current weight will just be the same until the 31st. Then again, I’ve been so swamped with work especially with the critical period in our company that I have been working during breaks and foregoing my snacks (imagine that!). Hmmmm… will keep you posted.

Run for your lives!

Writing by wisteria on Saturday, 23 of February, 2008 at 9:53 pm

You want to live long? Well, it’s easy if you have the discipline and motivation. Living a sedentary lifestyle like those stuck in the computer either working or addicted playing is not actually living a healthy life unless you engage in other activities that maintains your blood circulation in your system going. It does not actually stop, but it has other effects in your body. I recommend treadmills.

It has both advantages if used properly and disadvantages. Basically, it is a very good cardio-respiratory exercise especially for the hypertensive folks who are advised to do a 30-minute brisk walking, and mind you, it also increases endurance. The disadvantage? Some are just light for example, it occupies a lot of space and some find it boring. If that is the case, before buying one, make sure you have a spacious area to put it, and to those who find it uninteresting, why not listen to a radio or watch your favorite movie, right?

So, if I were you, considering the lifestyle you have now, why not avail one for yourself? Although, running outside is a lot cheaper, consider first the pros and cons. Happy running!!!

a wager on trimming my waistline

Writing by wisteria on Saturday, 16 of February, 2008 at 10:39 pm

I’m bent on trimming down my waistline so I made a bet with my officemate last year. The terms are: my stomach should be flat by the end of March 2008, otherwise I’ll have to shed three grand.

Currently, my weight is declining but my stomach is still bulging. I consulted this with a fitness expert and he said that the best way to get rid of unwanted, unsightly fats is through regular jogging. I could also opt for home gym equipment such as stair lifts and treadmill if I have extra money and would like to workout at the comfort of my own house.

Hmmmm… then again, there’s a fitness center near our village entrance that’s way cheap and very accessible. I think I’ll just avail of their facilities. Wish me luck!

asbestos and cancer?

Writing by wisteria on Friday, 15 of February, 2008 at 11:46 am

A former construction worker I ran into yesterday told me something about mesothelioma. To my surprise, he surely knows well about it because he was diagnosed to have it. The doctor told him that it is a cancer that invades the protective lining that envelops most of the internal organs in our body or the “mesothelium”. Earlier or constant exposure to asbestos dust and fiber through inhalation can predispose a person to this type of cancer. I asked how one would know if he has it, he said with conviction that when you are exposed to asbestos frequently, with age 30-50 and you suffer from shortness of breath, cough and pain in the chest, there is no better thing to do but to consult your physician.

Well, to guys out there working hard to earn, as the saying goes, “HEALTH IS WEALTH”, don’t forget to take care of your health and wear your personal protective equipments.

healthy living needs healthy diet

Writing by wisteria on Friday, 8 of February, 2008 at 9:22 pm

My stomach is becoming bulkier… very unfeminine if I may say so. Consequently, I feel quite conscious about it to the point of finding the need to go on a diet – something I’ve never done in my 25 years of being in this perplexing planet. There’s always a first time, I guess. *sigh*

Anyhow, my breakfast and snacks now mostly consist of flavored oatmeals, mushroom soup, fruits, vegetable salads, grape seed extract and other fruit juices. Oh well, I should’ve shifted to that diet several years ago and avoided this bulky stomach. After all, healthy living is essential to be able to live your life to the fullest.

ain’t gonna let you touch it!

I’d like to share with you what my cousin told me about “tender points” or what they call fibromyalgia. She said it has no treatment and it petrified me. However as she elaborated on what it meant, I was relieved to find out that at least the symptoms such as difficulty in sleeping, headaches and difficulty with thinking and memory which was occasionally called “fibro fog” can be alleviated.

How? Well, this type of disorder responsible for muscle pains, fatigue with unknown etiology and that usually affects middle-aged women, can be relieved by exercising, getting enough rest, eating well-balanced diet and reducing the stress inducers.

Therefore, the right management would be to avoid the precipitating factors, and make sure that you have time for leisure or de-stressing.

i punched another hole on my belt!

Writing by wisteria on Saturday, 26 of January, 2008 at 10:13 pm

Speaking of weight loss I have read in a reliable journal this afternoon, regarding diet pills that it is indeed helpful in losing weight so long as you complement it with proper diet and exercise. But it is much better if you start off with the proper diet and exercise first then the right medication.

A lot of people plunk down their money on diet pills without knowing the proper way to lose weight. Experts say that engaging in sports will help you trim down excess fats coupled with healthy foods.

My advice to healthy living? EAT RIGHT, and take the medications as a last resort, but with proper exercise.

fighting the effect of a sedentary lifestyle

Writing by wisteria on Saturday, 26 of January, 2008 at 8:55 pm

When I was a kid, I ate a lot without gaining a pound. That’s why I used to wonder why there are fat old people in the world.

Now that I’m in the early 20’s and with a lifestyle that spends most of the time typing in front of a computer, I found the answer – the sedentary lifestyle. This is what makes people go “festively plump” as Eric Cartman from South Park nicely puts it.

Unfortunately, I’m starting to gain weight. I acquired 10 lbs in just 3 months. If I’m not careful, I just might end up like Eric Cartman *shiver*. Which is why, I really need to invest on a fitness equipment that I can still use in spite of my hectic schedule. Sigh. I hope by March, I already burned at least 5 lbs.

on detoxifying

Writing by wisteria on Monday, 7 of January, 2008 at 7:53 pm

Chad’s best friend has been living a sedentary lifestyle for a few months now since he was terminated from work. He spent his savings until his last penny by partying, food tripping, and not to mention being a couch potato watching football and movies. Chad and my cousin found his place a total mess– you can just imagine how the after-the-party scenario looks like; and of course his buddy lying on his back on the couch. They tried to help him recover from his depression by engaging in sports Chad and Abi are into, and attend some organizations to get him going again. Abi suggested that he should first have a colon cleanse to detoxify his body from the toxins that have built up in his colon caused by excessive food intake residues that formed mucoid plaques thereby causing several abnormalities in his system like constipation, acne, obesity and other diseases.

If it is not for their help, I bet he must be worse than he was right now.

helpful tips for those experiencing incontinence

Writing by wisteria on Sunday, 30 of December, 2007 at 8:03 pm

My Aunt Rose suffered from epilepsy since she was six years old by accident. Grandma prefers to take care of my aunt herself because she thinks moms know best, and because my other relatives are busy with their own families as well.

My aunt would often smell stinky because she wets herself and of course, my grandma is too old to care for my epileptic aunt. Abi suggested to our grandma to purchase incontinence supplies which can be bought in retail prices such as the adult and child protective underwear which looks like diapers. To prevent being stinky, there are some incontinent spray to refresh the intended user.

Same thing happened several times with my cousin Abi’s friend Eve, who, at a gathering would hysterically laugh and then stop abruptly. Everybody wonders why Eve would do such thing and refuse to divulge the reason.

Two months ago, while Abi was having a discussion with Eve, Eve finally blurted out that whenever she laughs, coughs, or sneezes, there is involuntary loss of urine and it feels very uncomfortable. Abi said that my Aunt Rose’s case is called hypertonic incontinence while Eve’s case is stress incontinence. For Eve, she suggested some Kegel’s exercise and for her to consult a physician about it. Fortunately, Eve after some time was able to maintain continence and enjoy the rest of the night during parties.

So, to girls out there who experience the same unpleasant incident, do not feel mortified for the reason that it is still reversible if treated accordingly, and there are different ways to feel refreshed even if you are incontinent.
