my god daughter, the queen of hearts

Written on Tuesday, 9 of October, 2007 at 10:23 pm

It’s my god daughter Ayesha’s third birthday today! Her mom, my very close friend Twyla, specifically told me to buy her a costume for the Halloween party and trick or treat as a birthday gift.

Her birthday celebration is on Friday, October 12, and right now, I’m still undecided if I should buy her the Wizard of Oz Dorothy Costume (with matching hair bow) or the Alice in Wonderland Costume (with attached lace petticoat and white apron, and includes hairbows, and choker). Then again, they’re both too common. Hmmm… I think I’ll settle for the Queen of Hearts Costume. Definitely extraordinary and with the color red, my god daughter’s sure to stand out and receive a generous amount of treats this Halloween.

(almost) loyal Nokia 6630 owner

Written on Tuesday, 9 of October, 2007 at 6:39 pm

Last 2005, I bought a Nokia 6630 – the latest phone at that time. Two years later, although there are already a lot of cellular phones which are way better and has more cool features that came out, I can say that Nokia 6630 was a good investment on my part.

Why? It has most of the essential features of the latest models, and with its expandable memory, I can pretty much install on my 6630 most of the software you can find in the latest cellular phones. Then again, if someone offered me a Samsung SGH-D900 (comes with a powerful 3.13 megapixel camera and TV-output function), an Apple iPhone (8 GB), a Nokia 7370 (I really love the Warm Amber, this phone totally wins the beauty pageant) or a RIM BlackBerry 8700c Cellular Phone, I’d happily accept it and donate my current cell phone. Who wouldn’t? 0:p

my quest for finding THE pendant

Written on Tuesday, 9 of October, 2007 at 4:39 pm

I bought a sterling silver chain necklace when I went out of town last March 28 for my cousin Rico’s wedding. I bought it with a plain cross pendant. The necklace is so nice that it actually goes well with just about any silver-themed pendant.

Consequently, my quest for hunting simple but elegant pendants began. Right now, I’m deciding among the Pearl Pendant 0.20 cts (with free gift bag), a 14KT White Gold 1.00ct Diamond Cross Pendant, and a 14k White Gold Multicolor Sapphire Journey Pendant. I think I’m going for the latter because the seven multicolored round sapphires that are prong-set in the pendant makes it look vibrant and can be partnered with just about any shade of clothes.

handbags galore

Written on Tuesday, 9 of October, 2007 at 10:12 am

My cousin Abigail has been bugging me for quite some time for a new bag. Her everyday bag is so worn out that she’s afraid it might rip anytime soon.

She has been eyeing my authentic Coach Black Leather Lunch Tote. Unfortunately, I cannot just give it to her because it was a present from our aunt. With the upcoming Christmas season, I decided to be more generous and am now saving up for a dark brown lambskin Balenciaga bag with a detachable leather framed mirror and whistle charm at handle. It’s quite pricey for a bag. But with the quality and design, it’s definitely worth it.

Anyhow, if all else fails, I can always just opt to buy her one of the Gucci Handbags Cruise 2006 with a GG Plus signature canvas.

THE necklace: a walk through the garden

Written on Monday, 8 of October, 2007 at 10:38 am

I’m a big fan of pearls, diamonds, and gold. However, I have not been into accessories until recently. Consequently, I’ve been making up for lost time by ensuring that I have all types of accessories to match the occasion.

With my cousin’s upcoming 18th birthday, I’m planning to wear a brown balloon dress and highlight it with a gold necklace since the neck area is pretty bare. Unfortunately, the only thick necklace I have is a customized floating pearl necklace. It does not seem to add the desired simple yet elegant effect that I want to project, so I browsed for the perfect match for my brown dress.

Luckily, I found THE necklace to fit my dress: A Walk Through The Garden Diamond Necklace by Galatea Jewelry. It is a polished 14kt yellow gold necklace with multiple flowers accented with diamonds. It’s currently on sale. Still, it’s way beyond my budget. I guess I’ll just settle with just purchasing the Liz Claiborne Pearl Torsade Necklace for the meantime. Hmmm… perhaps I’ll also buy the Nine West Vine Necklace and the Nine West 2 Row 16in Silver Necklace to add to my collection.

on foot care and shoes

Written on Thursday, 16 of August, 2007 at 12:55 am

I read somewhere that, “In any free-standing structure, the foundation is of utmost importance.” As for us, our foundation is our feet because our whole body is supported by our feet.

Nevertheless, a lot of people often take for granted that they are able to walk proficiently every day and sometimes even abuse their feet. Although our feet are naturally designed to cope with uneven and rough surfaces, it is nonetheless important to wear the proper shoes.

According to Jane Andersen, D.P.M., a podiatrist in Chapel Hill, N.C., “Shoes should be comfortable right when you buy them. You should be able to wiggle your toes. And shoes should have a strong sole that flexes at the ball of your foot.” Other foot care tips I found while surfing the net are these:

  • When you buy shoes, measure your feet standing and not sitting.
  • Replace your shoes every 6 months as well-worn shoes lose their ability to support your feet properly.
  • Use powder on your feet prior to putting on socks and shoes to help keep them dry.
  • Have at least two pair of shoes and switch shoes every other day
  • When buying shoes it is best to buy them in the later part of the day when your feet might be swollen (this way the shoes will fit better if they are a little loose as opposed to trying to stretch the shoes because they are a little tight)

If you’re planning to buy shoes, I suggest you check out a website that can help you narrow down your choices depending on your budget and needs. Online stores like Shopping.com offers a selection of shoes, from men’s to women’s. Moreover, it covers different shoe brands and merchants which will make your selection much easier. Do make sure to choose the pair that meets your requirements.

If you want to stay active and comfortable all throughout your life, take good care of your body’s foundation – your feet.

on changing wardrobe

Written on Wednesday, 15 of August, 2007 at 5:33 pm

I’ve been thinking about changing my wardrobe since all of them are college attires like jeans and shirts. Now that I’m turning 25 this October, I think I ought to start dressing up my age.

Browsing over the internet to find THE look I’m searching for, I saw Shopping.com’s section for women’s clothing and was amazed at their user-friendly left bar search menu. You can actually find clothes based from the apparel type, the material, brand, store, sizes and styles, and even by price. Also, if you’re on a budget like me, you can compare prices of particular apparels between different sites through Shopping.com.

What I really love about it is that they offer buying guides for apparel and they cover brands from Old Navy and Gap, to DKNY and Dolce & Gabbana. With shopping-friendly websites like this, I think changing my wardrobe would be a cinch.

on buying costumes

Written on Saturday, 28 of July, 2007 at 11:44 pm

It’s never too early to start hunting for Halloween costumes and decorations. In fact, the earlier you start buying Halloween decorations and accessories, the better because you’ll be able to get them at a much cheaper rate.

Halloween costumes for toddlers, to adults, to even pets are available online. They range from the classic angel and fairy tale costumes, to the modern Lord of the Rings and famous movie stars costumes.

When buying a costume, do keep in mind that it is always better to buy one that will not be easily outdated, and can last for more than the usual one-time wearing. This will not only save you money, but also save you time from the hassle of searching for another costume. After all, you never know when a costume party might arise.

on military and fashion

Written on Saturday, 28 of July, 2007 at 6:02 am

Having lived in two different military camps for more than 20 years, I must admit that I used to turn my nose down on people, civilians in particular, who are going for the “military look” by accessorizing themselves with camouflage shirts or cargo pants, and the like. They tend to look like posers.

Vintage Military Shoulder Bag & Uni-Strap Tote BagAfter seeing some vintage looking military shoulder bags and really classic camouflage clothing, I decided to reverse my opinion. With the right design and/or cut, and tasteful mix and match, military stuff can actually look fashionable.
