a customizable calculator

Ruth, my youngest sister who’s now in her senior year in high school, is planning to take up Civil Engineering in our state university. In preparation for her course, I plan on buying a graphic calculator as a graduation gift.
I’m not really that knowledgeable when it comes to calculators so I asked my friend Carmela, who’s a Civil Engineer, to recommend a good calculator. She said that those calculators by Texas Instruments are pretty good though somewhat expensive. Still, if it’s for someone who’s going to have a lot of Math in her course, she told me that the calculator is worth the price.
Carmela helped me search online and we ended up settling for the TI-83 Plus Graphic Calculator. It is programmable and its graphic display is 16-character x 8-lines. What I love about this is that the calculator is that it is not your conventional calculator. With its 160K user available Flash ROM, you can actually customize TI-83 Plus in a way that you can download and add software programs in it similar to software applications you download to a computer. Pretty amazing, huh? ^_^
