Slimming just in time for our Christmas party

Written on Sunday, 29 of November, 2009 at 10:51 am

After my food-filling and relaxing four-day out-of-town trip, my friend Mark noticed my accumulated slightly rounded belly… this is not good. Like I mentioned before, we have an office Christmas party with a Luau theme! I can’t very well go to a Hawaiian party with this bulging stomach… it’s an outrage for me.

Well, since our party is still on the 12th, if I use our dip machine every morning, combine it with Bikram Yoga every night, I just might be able to wear my summery Hawaiian dress for that occasion. I’m keeping my fingers crossed.

Was trapped in the bathroom

Written on Friday, 27 of November, 2009 at 1:43 pm

It’s almost 9 a.m. and I was really worried about Carlo, one of our writers. You see, we have a client deadline of at least two news articles daily to be submitted on or before 11 a.m. of the same day. There are only two writers in my department, and the other one was on leave, so that leaves Carlo… who’s time in is supposed to be 8:30 a.m.

Just before the clock hit 9 o’clock, Carlo came rushing in our office all flustered. He immediately went to his workstation and started typing away for the client. During lunch, I found out that he literally got stuck in their bathroom because of the faulty door knob. Apparently, they were using an ancient rusty door knob in the bathroom that was due for replacement for a long time now. It took them a long time to get him out of their bathroom and even went to the extent of seeking the help of a carpenter. After office hours, since it’s pay day as well, Carlo decided to buy one of those plastic knobs in the hardware store to replace their now knob-less bathroom door.

Carlo, by the way, was able to meet the 11 a.m. deadline for the articles. Normally, this would have been an all’s well that ends well story. But then I remembered that because of his late today, he’s now on the tardy employee list! I can’t wait to read his “Notice to Explain” for his late today. I won’t be surprised if the HR thought Carlo was just pulling their leg. Ahahaha!

Drugged diet pills beware

Written on Wednesday, 25 of November, 2009 at 9:00 pm

I recently heard from a friend of mine that her cousin Jamie was sent to rehab due to taking “natural” diet pills. My friend said Jamie bought the pills from a well known online store and used the pills without any consultation with the doctor. At first the pills made her lose her appetite, which was good, until she showed symptoms of intoxication and addiction. Her family even thought that Jamie was taking drugs without knowing that the diet pills were the main cause of her addiction. A few weeks later, Jamie was sent to a drug rehab for a check up and was later found to be intoxicated with illegal drugs. Fortunately, Jamie is now recovering from her addiction.

Taking pills without consulting a doctor is like playing russian roulette with your health. The ads might say that the pills are completely natural and safe but you know how advertisements work right? Please beware that website reviews may just be paid by the pills manufacturers themselves so never rely on them. There are plenty of resources in the net which can help you decide on the diet pill to take, like the FDA site although it is still necessary to seek advice from the doctor.

Renting in minneapolis

Written on Monday, 23 of November, 2009 at 10:22 pm

If you’re going to work in one of the largest states in the US like Minnesota, you’ll probably having a difficult time finding a house to buy. This state is not only large, it is also heavily populated. Most of the land are already private property.Good thing there is another cheaper and better alternative – renting an apartment.

A friend of mine transferred to Minnesota last week to do some maintenance work on one of our outsourcing clients. Instead of getting a hotel, he rented in on of theMinneapolis apartments. Minneapolis is a very interesting city, populated yet not crowded. This is one of the US states where you can find a good balance of nature, tradition, history, and high technology. Not to mention the high literacy rate in this city.

Back Onstage for my Dad’s 65th Birthday

Written on Sunday, 15 of November, 2009 at 10:05 am

For my dad’s 65th birthday, my entire family was planning to book for a myrtle beach vacation rentals. Unfortunately, we did not have much time to arrange that. So we ended up celebrating my dad’s birthday in a bar with live band.

That was not the end of it. My sisters and I decided to surprise our dad by conniving with the bar and asking them to have us perform two songs onstage. You see, our dad’s been bugging us all month telling us to practice because he wants to see us perform. We pretended to ignore his request while secretly practicing in a studio during weekends.

At the bar, after finishing our dinner, my dad was shocked when the live band called us onstage to perform. 0:D We played two songs – U2’s With or Without You and The Corr’s So Young. Although out of practice, we did quite well, I must say. *step, curtsy. step, curtsy*

My dad was literally beaming with pride and happiness the entire time. ^_^

Luau in December

Written on Friday, 13 of November, 2009 at 10:01 am

We recently had an office survey for our Christmas party theme. Although the theme that won was red carpet, our General Manager decided to override the voting system and picked Luau instead. I was not happy with the process of course (I voted for 70’s and 80’s theme by the way).

Then I found out that the main reason why our GM did that was because the venue they got has an Olympic size pool. I guess there’s merit in his decision. Also, to appease the ones who voted for the red carpet, they will be placing a “red carpet booth” in the venue where people can take pictures

Now the only problem of majority of my colleagues is – how to burn fat in one month to look good in a Luau outfit. Ahahaha!

Shedding fat for energy boost

Written on Monday, 9 of November, 2009 at 8:36 pm

Did you know that gaining as little as five pounds of extra weight can give you fatigue? Also, losing just one pound can make significant boost to your vitality. I learned this from a seminar conducted by one of our medical suppliers last week. They gave a seminar regarding the effect of taking a slim pill on chronic fatigue syndrome. In summary, chronic fatigue syndrome is affecting so many in the population, especially office employees with poor lifestyle. There is no known cause yet but in general, fatigue maybe caused by several factors including insomnia, inadequate exercise, poor blood circulation, and as I mentioned before – being overweight.
