Cool apartment guys!

Written on Friday, 20 of February, 2009 at 3:35 am

Today I had a chance to help new friends look for an apartment. They were newly hired in our office and they need a decent place to stay. We found a beautiful place with a front porch and a parking garage. Oh, and the garden behind the house was so pretty, it even had outdoor furniture already. Anyhow, as we went inside the house, I quickly asked for the kitchen (my favorite spot). A good house for me is one with a clean and organized kitchen (also squeaky clean bathrooms). In my apartment, I make it a point to keep things organized especially when there are visitors coming. You know what they say, “how you organize your house is how you organize your life”. And so, back to my friends, they paid the house tenant and they’ll move in this weekend. Hopefully they’ll invite me for some barbeque for the housewarming. Hehe.

Be weary of muggers

Written on Friday, 20 of February, 2009 at 1:34 am

A friend of mine who works for Microsoft went to Seattle last month for a technical training. He stayed in one of the hotels downtown. The training was supposed to start the day after he arrives in Seattle but due to some issues, he was asked to wait a day more. It was his first time in Seattle. He knew nothing about the place, just that it was the populated city in Washington. Since he had nothing to do for the day (canceled training) he went strolling around the city, amusing himself with the beautiful sites to see. As he was on his way to the hotel, he was mugged and hit in the head by two strangers that he was not able to identify.

As I’ve learned about this story from his colleague, I contacted him to know if he’s alright. Fortunately, he was fine. He already reported the incident to the police and it turned out that the muggers we’re identified by a saleslady in a nearby shop. A Seattle injury lawyer is already onto the case.

Don’t replace your PC just yet

Written on Thursday, 19 of February, 2009 at 8:19 pm

Are quad core processors still necessary? Is the gigabyte video card which consumes much electricity really required? Many of us who are very fond of the latest gadgets often replace our PC’s almost every two years (once a year even). The reason is usually because of the slowing down of our programs and our present PC’s cannot cope up with our current software. But do our programs really slow down?

The fast development of PC hardware seems to outpace our software developers. Take for instance the quad core processors. Most applications have the same performance even when run in a single core or dual core PC. Another example is the windows OS. Almost every year they come up with a version which runs as fast as the previous version. The only programs I know that can really utilize the multi-cored PC’s are enterprise server applications. Even I don’t believe that the new games like red alert really require a quad core PC. As a programmer I know that the same quality games can be developed using even the single cored PC’s. So with all I have said, my point is: Don’t replace your PC unless you really need to.

Paris of South America

Written on Thursday, 19 of February, 2009 at 1:15 am

After all the stress in wedding preparations and in the wedding itself, a couple ought to have a relaxing honeymoon to make the “just hitched” mood sink in. There are lots of beautiful places to go for that “dream honeymoon”. Paris is a good place to go, very romantic yet too expensive. Vegas is also nice, luxurious hotels but even more expensive. A great place I can suggest for you budget-conscious honeymooners out there is Argentina!

Argentina, also known as “the Paris of South America”,houses many of the world’s most beautiful natural sites. It includes almost all the provinces in the southern half of South America. With its tall mountains, spectacular waterfalls, and vast deserts, you sure will forget about all your stress. Try visiting the Iguazu Falls which is one of the greatest natural wonders of the world. If you’re into culture and dining, go to Buenos Aires, the capital of Argentina, for that wide variety of great food and wine. You sure wouldn’t want to go anywhere else for your honeymoon. Be prepared for that exciting Argentina travel. Book now!

30 Minutes

Written on Saturday, 14 of February, 2009 at 11:12 pm

I stood at the grocery cashier for almost 30 minutes yesterday. Apparently, the barcode scanner wasn’t working. I could’ve easily transferred to another cashier but the cute guy behind me started talking to me. Waiting suddenly didn’t matter at all. He saw a couple of the stuff that I was buying and I was surprised that he found the shampoo that they said was out of stock. So I asked him where he got it and he said it was at the left corner at lane 36.

He offered to get it for me while I was dealing with the cashier lady. He was sweet, and after the barcode issue we went our separate ways. Then when I got to the parking lot I saw him again, apparently he was parked right next to me. “Coffee?” he asked. I looked at him and I smiled, “I’ll think about it.”

Greece

Written on Thursday, 12 of February, 2009 at 3:23 pm

Last Wednesday, Mic, Joyce, Victor and I went to a bar for a couple of drinks after work. We started discussing the travel deals we got from former vacations we had the past summer. The talks of beach made me feel hungry for the sun so I asked them when we are all going for an out of town trip.

Mic suggested that we go to Santorini, Greece the last weekend of February. Everyone was psyched on the idea. I told Vic to inform the others through our group online also so that we can all budget our trip there. Sun and fun here we come!

All expense paid cruise

Written on Wednesday, 11 of February, 2009 at 8:40 pm

I had another great time with my friend last night. I haven’t seen her for a while so I was very happy to see her again. We went to a gourmet restaurant and we ordered their bestseller burgers and onion rings (her treat!).

We talked and laughed all night, talking about anything and everything. She mentioned about her plan to go in a cruise this year and she invited me to come with her. I have never been in a cruise but I had always dreamt of being in one. I gratefully accepted the invitation. The trip will be on her expense but I think I still have to save up for some pocket money in case I see some good buys on the way. If everything turns out as planned, I’ll finally be going in an Asian cruise this November!

Living

Written on Monday, 9 of February, 2009 at 9:25 am

My uncle is a paranoid freak. He has this huge collection of safety equipment at home. He can be a laughing stock because of that but then when I come to think of it. The accident he had 5 years ago was not a joke. He broke his leg in 5 places and he can never walk properly after that. And now that he has kids the trauma he had with the accident doubled. I had my own share of trauma just a month ago right after my birthday. I was riding a taxi when a boy suddenly crossed the high way and we ended up hitting him. Ever since then, I’ve taken extra precautions when riding a cab and when driving. Life can be cruel sometimes but it still should be lived.

When Wednesday Isn’t Over

Written on Sunday, 8 of February, 2009 at 2:49 am

Jerry, Vic, Joyce and I decided to meet up for a shopping Sunday. Among all other things we had stuff to buy.ball lock pins, ipod, shoes, and a dress for my date tomorrow was on the list. We met at 10:30 at starbucks for coffee. Last night Jerry and I were quite drunk and a caffeine juice would be perfect for a quick fix. At 11 a.m. we went to the mall in search for our stuff to spend on.

Lo and behold the moment we stepped inside Isa, Adrian, and Angelo were there as well. It looks like it’s going to be another Wednesday group episode. So we all decided to get together and buy our stuff together. From 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. we stayed looking for our stuff when we can just do that in 1 hour ourselves. It was fun. But then when isn’t it that fun when I’m with them? Till next Wednesday again.
