Dr. Entrepreneur

Written on Wednesday, 27 of February, 2008 at 8:27 pm

My cousin Abi recently had a new sideline – wholesale fashion jewelry. For a medical student like her who should be concentrating on her acads, I guess selling small items to earn some money to compensate for her luxuries is okay.

At first, she used to sell one type of product which her customers can pay in a month. After earning a little, she added other product types, and then increased her list of products until she was known in her medical class as “Doctor Entrepreneur”. One of her customers’ favorite is the very attractive jewelry with gemstones in different colors. She would buy this fashion jewelry in wholesale in a store that sells it in a cheaper price, and then she would sell it in retail in a higher price packed in attractive containers plus a little charm while advertising to her colleagues.

Abi shared that her customers would even give her tips to earn more… So the cycle continues.

Run for your lives!

Written on Saturday, 23 of February, 2008 at 9:53 pm

You want to live long? Well, it’s easy if you have the discipline and motivation. Living a sedentary lifestyle like those stuck in the computer either working or addicted playing is not actually living a healthy life unless you engage in other activities that maintains your blood circulation in your system going. It does not actually stop, but it has other effects in your body. I recommend treadmills.

It has both advantages if used properly and disadvantages. Basically, it is a very good cardio-respiratory exercise especially for the hypertensive folks who are advised to do a 30-minute brisk walking, and mind you, it also increases endurance. The disadvantage? Some are just light for example, it occupies a lot of space and some find it boring. If that is the case, before buying one, make sure you have a spacious area to put it, and to those who find it uninteresting, why not listen to a radio or watch your favorite movie, right?

So, if I were you, considering the lifestyle you have now, why not avail one for yourself? Although, running outside is a lot cheaper, consider first the pros and cons. Happy running!!!

the end sometimes does not justify the means

Written on Friday, 22 of February, 2008 at 2:53 pm

I was mortified when I saw my cousin and her boyfriend in my apartment, they were arguing about something, but before they could explain what had happened, I freaked out… I just saw my sketches of my ideal shower faucets on the floor!

I love designing my own bathroom, accessorize, curtaining and other stuff like that. But what broke my heart is when I saw my sketches lying on the floor with two people arguing beside it. When I got into my senses, I talked to them with an unruffled voice. They were blaming each other as to who dropped it. They were just trying to help arrange my things to surprise me.

Well, they did surprise me, only in a ghastly way. I hate it when my cousin goes against my wishes. I told her not to let any guys in my place, but she disobeyed me. Aside from that, they almost ruined my sketches! Luckily, it was still wrapped in plastic. So, I talked to both of them and told them to never mess up with my things especially my favorite ones, and secondly, if they want to surprise me, I hope it would not end that way again.

I still thanked them though for their good intention.

a must have in every home

Written on Thursday, 21 of February, 2008 at 10:39 pm

A person needs privacy in the bedroom and extra privacy when in the comfort room and the bathroom. Even a sick or aged person wants to use the toilet and cleans himself/herself alone. Thus, we have to respect their privacy by allowing them to do these by themselves with caution.

To prevent accident to happen in the bathroom involving weak members of the family, it is a must for every home to have a shower stool. The shower stool should be triangular in shape that fits compactly into the shower stall corner or tub. It should also have slip resistant rubber tips for added safety. Let us be reminded of the adage, “Prevention is better than cure.”

a wager on trimming my waistline

Written on Saturday, 16 of February, 2008 at 10:39 pm

I’m bent on trimming down my waistline so I made a bet with my officemate last year. The terms are: my stomach should be flat by the end of March 2008, otherwise I’ll have to shed three grand.

Currently, my weight is declining but my stomach is still bulging. I consulted this with a fitness expert and he said that the best way to get rid of unwanted, unsightly fats is through regular jogging. I could also opt for home gym equipment such as stair lifts and treadmill if I have extra money and would like to workout at the comfort of my own house.

Hmmmm… then again, there’s a fitness center near our village entrance that’s way cheap and very accessible. I think I’ll just avail of their facilities. Wish me luck!

the best feb fair days of my life

Written on Saturday, 16 of February, 2008 at 9:03 pm

Having recently been absent for two consecutive Thursdays because of my wisdom tooth extraction and suture removal, getting a leave request form approved was pretty impossible. So I went to my university February Fair last Friday with an excuse of hiring OJTs for my company just so they would approve my leave.

It worked, and with that approval, I was able to help my company and experience the best Feb Fair days of my life at the same time. My overnight stay there is an entire memory worth freezing and looking back into every now and then.

I met lots of old friends – Sir Edmund, Garry, Randwin Rico, Niño, Audric, Tin-Tin and Marcoe, and for the first time in four years (after I graduated), I had long, reminiscing and nostalgic conversations with them. I’m so thankful I did not go to my usual “go around the Feb Fair, say hi, then leave to just hang out at my friend’s apartment” routine. Otherwise, I would have missed those mishaps, funny, and touching moments.

Thank you guys for the memories. I’ll definitely be back for next year’s Feb Fair to make more memories with you. ^_^

asbestos and cancer?

Written on Friday, 15 of February, 2008 at 11:46 am

A former construction worker I ran into yesterday told me something about mesothelioma. To my surprise, he surely knows well about it because he was diagnosed to have it. The doctor told him that it is a cancer that invades the protective lining that envelops most of the internal organs in our body or the “mesothelium”. Earlier or constant exposure to asbestos dust and fiber through inhalation can predispose a person to this type of cancer. I asked how one would know if he has it, he said with conviction that when you are exposed to asbestos frequently, with age 30-50 and you suffer from shortness of breath, cough and pain in the chest, there is no better thing to do but to consult your physician.

Well, to guys out there working hard to earn, as the saying goes, “HEALTH IS WEALTH”, don’t forget to take care of your health and wear your personal protective equipments.

world’s greatest asset

Written on Saturday, 9 of February, 2008 at 9:49 pm

If you still don’t know what the world’s greatest asset is.. it is none other than your home!

Your home is where you experienced your first education and it is where you get to spend quality time with your family. It has been the best comfort zone to you for ages and it will still continue serving your every need.. if you take care of it the way it took care of you!

Since your home is the world’s greatest asset, you should consider doing everything to preserve it. You cannot avoid disasters like fire, earthquakes and every other natural calamity. Thus I recommend that you get a home owner insurance. If you are a responsible home owner, you would get one. As the old saying goes, “Knowledge is your best defense as a consumer.” So be aware of the possible disasters that can happen to your home and get one today!

healthy living needs healthy diet

Written on Friday, 8 of February, 2008 at 9:22 pm

My stomach is becoming bulkier… very unfeminine if I may say so. Consequently, I feel quite conscious about it to the point of finding the need to go on a diet – something I’ve never done in my 25 years of being in this perplexing planet. There’s always a first time, I guess. *sigh*

Anyhow, my breakfast and snacks now mostly consist of flavored oatmeals, mushroom soup, fruits, vegetable salads, grape seed extract and other fruit juices. Oh well, I should’ve shifted to that diet several years ago and avoided this bulky stomach. After all, healthy living is essential to be able to live your life to the fullest.

Ring ring…

Written on Friday, 8 of February, 2008 at 9:04 pm

Today my friend Mara called and asked me for price quotations on wedding rings. She’ll be getting married this April and is currently swamped with the wedding preparations. I don’t know a thing about rings of that type, since I’m still single and has not yet considered even owning one.

Anyway, I think she chose me for that task since I have access to computers and she knows I like surfing the internet. So I browsed different websites, and looked at their price ranges for different designs and for different materials. I didn’t know it could cost so much! Well, of course the price depends on the metal type, the intricacy of the design used for the ring, and most particularly, the brand. Still, most of them really cost a fortune.

Anyhow, I suggested several simple elegant rings that are not-so-expensive. She’ll be sending the feedback soon…
