you are what you eat

Written on Wednesday, 15 of August, 2007 at 8:52 pm

Elder people use to remind today’s youth on the importance of one’s health. They keep on telling them, “You are what you eat.” True enough, it is quite alarming that with the busy schedules, there is the tendency for the kids and adults as well, not to eat right. The emergence of fast food establishments and food courts that offer over fried/boiled/cooked meals with very minimal food nutrients contributes to the seriousness of this concern. The junk food and instant meal are also a growing concern. Thus, with these eating habits, a big number of people are prone to get sick.

Now, this situation could be properly addressed by taking nutritional supplements. Consequently, the next step is to choose which of the so many food supplements will be best for you? In relation, the selection process of supplements will play a big role so I recommend you visit http://www.shopping.com/xDN-Nutrition. In this site, you can shop for supplements by brand, by form such as capsules, fluid once, tablets, or by product type suited for teens, seniors, men, women and kids. You will also be able to compare the prices between multiple competitors of food supplements for you to get the so-called “value for money”.

Shop and select the best food and nutritional supplements for you. After all, you are what you eat.

on changing wardrobe

Written on Wednesday, 15 of August, 2007 at 5:33 pm

I’ve been thinking about changing my wardrobe since all of them are college attires like jeans and shirts. Now that I’m turning 25 this October, I think I ought to start dressing up my age.

Browsing over the internet to find THE look I’m searching for, I saw Shopping.com’s section for women’s clothing and was amazed at their user-friendly left bar search menu. You can actually find clothes based from the apparel type, the material, brand, store, sizes and styles, and even by price. Also, if you’re on a budget like me, you can compare prices of particular apparels between different sites through Shopping.com.

What I really love about it is that they offer buying guides for apparel and they cover brands from Old Navy and Gap, to DKNY and Dolce & Gabbana. With shopping-friendly websites like this, I think changing my wardrobe would be a cinch.

playing billiards at home

Written on Tuesday, 14 of August, 2007 at 4:56 am

We recently had a drinking-bowling company outing last August 10. I had so much fun that I recounted the entire evening to my mom.

She told me that bowling is a great game and we ought to do it as a family recreation one of these days. I told her a bowling game is expensive, so why not just play billiards? In fact, since we have plenty of space in our new house, why not avail of a pool table so we can have unlimited fun without the hassle of time constraint and per hour gaming fee. Besides, pool tables nowadays aren’t that expensive. My mom said she’ll consider it.

I’m keeping my fingers crossed. It would be really great to be able to play billiards in your own house and even invite friends for a game every now and then.

mailboxes - an attractive enhancement

Written on Tuesday, 14 of August, 2007 at 4:27 am

When we moved into our very own, newly constructed house (which I now refer to as “gray castle” because of the unpainted but sleek gravel finish of the outside part of the house), one of the first things that caught my attention and made me sigh to myself, “this is THE house where I can be carefree” is having our own mailbox at the gate.

Believe it or not, mailboxes do add a certain home-sweet-home effect to any dwelling. Having lived in military-provided houses in camps for more than 20 years has made me appreciate small intricacies in our house. You see, in those apartment and condos that I’ve lived in, when there’s no one at home to answer the mailman’s taps, the mailman usually just inserts our letters in between the small space of our door and floor. Because of this unavoidable proceeding, we tend to step on our letters (some of which are anniversary and important invitations!).

Turning your nose down on having apt or suitable residential mailboxes or commercial mailboxes is one of the common mistakes of a homeowner or developer. This attractive enhancement is actually an asset to the property and could even provide onlookers some notion about the owner’s character or taste. Remember, in building any edifice, each detail is important. As Ayn Rand wrote, “A building is alive, like man. [sic] A man doesn’t borrow pieces of his body. A building doesn’t borrow hunks of its soul. Its maker gives it the soul and every wall, window and stairway to express it.”

on buying cars

Written on Tuesday, 14 of August, 2007 at 4:18 am

If you think buying a car is expensive, you have another thought coming. Owning a car is just the beginning of your car expenses. There’s still the car registration fee, your daily or weekly Consequently, you ought to avail of products that will help you minimize your car cost. A good example of this is an electric pressure washer which will allow you to wash your car at home without the maintenance of a gas motor. Moreover, you can even use it to wash your outdoor (picnic) tables and chairs or perhaps even your pet dog!

Next time you think of buying a car, don’t just limit the cost to the amount you need to pay for the car.

on watching live games

Written on Monday, 13 of August, 2007 at 8:29 pm

It was a memorable experience being a participant of the week-long educational tour in Singapore. During the week-end, we were on our own, meaning we can go to the places we want. Thus, I joined the group that went to Malaysia riding a bus. After crossing the border, we stepped down the bus and had to look for a restaurant since it was lunch time. What caught our attention was the big screen at the food court. The people were glued to the screen, yelling and too excited while watching the international football or soccer game.

Now, I realized that what I witnessed in Malaysia was one of the football games being held regularly in the three largest cities of UK, the sports fan’s paradise. As such, I thought of going to the birthplace of football with my spouse to watch the real action and to yell together with the other fans. It will be a good timing for we are about to celebrate our wedding anniversary and we have been planning to spend it out of our country.

You don’t need to be rich for you to watch live the game. All you need to do is to book early in places cheaper than hotels such as London Hotel, Manchester Hotel and Liverpool Hotel. For sure, as a couple we will avail of what these hotels can offer for the early bird visitors who want to watch the famous football or soccer games live.

baby shower for Malyn

Written on Sunday, 12 of August, 2007 at 12:38 am

My college roommates and I are planning to give Malyn, one of our roommates, a baby shower with a Precious Moments shower theme. Malyn got married early this year and will be giving birth to her first born this September.

Since she’s the first of my roommates in unit G7 of Ladies Dorm to be expecting, we want to make the shower pretty special. Thus, as early as July, my friends and I have been planning the theme and decoration of the party. However, we’re in a dilemma because of some cash shortage. It’s a good thing Ruth, my internet addict sister, found out that you can avail of cheap baby shower decorations online. Now, we won’t need to worry about the party supplies expenses and we’re sure to have a memorable shower gathering this September.

the use of spies

Written on Saturday, 11 of August, 2007 at 8:54 am

Spies are a most important element in war, because upon them depends an army’s ability to move.

– Sun Tzu, The Art of War

It’s fascinating to know that spying has been practiced for as long as two and a half thousand years ago – the time when Sun Tzu wrote the thirteen chapters of The Art of War. What makes it even more interesting is that it IS being recommended.

But come to think of it, although we normally associate the word “spy” to military stratagems, in reality, it is being used in our everyday lives – both consciously and unconsciously. In fact, it is rampant in the business world, especially in marketing and anything online related. Currently, you can even buy a spy software online, with features that will allow you to record all (from email, chat messages, web sites visited and program launched to visual snapshot recording).

Nevertheless, spying stratagems, gadgets and software can be useful or destructive – it all depends on the implementer. With all the advancements in the use of spies (or in spying), let us not forget the importance of privacy, and that everyone has a right to privacy and personal space. Before enforcing any spying method, put yourself on the receiver’s shoes – would you like to be spied upon?

i want a digital SLR

Written on Saturday, 11 of August, 2007 at 12:19 am

As I mentioned on my previous post, I am a picture addict. The urge to take pictures has consumed me to the point that I feel giddy whenever I take pictures.

When I was in college, we studied basic photography wherein we were taught to use an SLR camera and how to develop and print pictures. I had such a fascinating time using an SLR camera at that time - from panning, birds eye view, and the different types of shots. Unfortunately, I just borrowed the SLR. So after the semester, I never got to hold another SLR again.

Now that I’m working though, I intend to reward myself with a Digital SLR or DSLR. Browsing over several digital cameras online, I fell in love with Canon EOS 5D Digital SLR Camera w/ Canon 24-105mm Lens Outfit. The current price is $3,799.99. Being lightweight and with the DSLR’s specs and features, “Its full-frame 12.8 Megapixel CMOS sensor combines with Canon’s DIGIC II Image Processor, a high-precision 9-point AF system with 6 assist points, and Picture Style color control to deliver images of superior quality with enough resolution for any application,” it is absolutely worth it.

on edifice details

Written on Friday, 10 of August, 2007 at 11:47 pm

A building is alive, like man. Its integrity is to follow its own truth, its one single theme, and to serve its own single purpose. A man doesn’t borrow pieces of his body. A building doesn’t borrow hunks of its soul. Its maker gives it the soul and every wall, window and stairway to express it.

The Fountainhead, by Ayn Rand

Each detail in the design and construction of a building serves a purpose. The way the components are made to fit together defines the architect’s purpose in creating it. The site, the building’s contour, and the materials used can even define the owner’s character or how he or she wants to be portrayed. In fact, even small, intricate Architectural Classics like an Art Noveau Style Copper Brass Door Knocker can make or break the theme or purpose of the building.

Buildings are commonly used as a statement of one’s life especially since it can outlast the creator or owner’s mortality. Nevertheless, all edifices are a monument both to the owner and the architect. Whether you plan to construct a simple house or a grand skyscraper, keep in mind that no two buildings are alike and every detail is significant.
